Lake Canton
Located just East of Canton accessible via East Chestnut St./East County Highway 27.
Lake Canton offers fishing, boating, boat slips, kayak launches, a seasonal campground, cabin rental, picnic areas, hiking trails and a lake view observation deck. Cameras are located through out the recreation area. Weekend food vendors may also be selling food at the pavilion during the camping season.
Lake Canton Campground
The Campground is open every year from April 15th through October 15th. The Campground offers 60 RV sites and 15 primitive sites. All sites have water and electrical hook up, except a small area of 5 primitive sites. Any person at the site can use the Dumping Station for waste disposal. It is a stationary holding tank pumped weekly by the City. The Campground has a shower house building, first aid station, vending machines and a playground. Weekend food vendors may be selling food at the pavilion during camping season.

Cove Cabin Rental
Cove Cabin rental is available during the camping on-season from April 15th through October 31st.
Rates and Check-in:
- $50.00 per night through the week, or $150 for a weekend of Friday and Saturday nights. Rate is for two occupants only.
- Full payment for your stay will be due at the time of reservation.
- Check-in is 3:00pm and check-out is 10:00am.

Cove Cabins are equipped with:
- Electricity, heating, and air conditioning. NO RUNNING WATER OR RESTROOMS.
- Each cabin sleeps two and features twin-sized bunk beds.
- Dining table, compact refrigerator and microwave.
- Parking is designated for each unit and can accommodate one vehicle per cabin.
Bring your camping gear:
- Lanterns, cooking and eating utensils, and water containers.
- Your own linens and sleeping bags.
- Non-flame cooking devices.
Rules:
- Open-flame cooking is not allowed inside the cabins or on the porch.
- No smoking allowed in the cabin.
- Pets are not allowed inside the cabin.
- Cleanup and trash removal are the responsibility of the lodging guest and should be completed before checkout.
Boat Slips
Lake Canton offers for rent, 12 pontoon boat slips. They can be rented seasonally, monthly, weekly, or on a daily basis and are first come, first served basis.

Boat Slip Rules
- Swimming or fishing within the vicinity of the dock or boat slips is not permitted.
- Sleeping on the boat or water craft affiliated with the slips is not permitted.
- Camping or tents are not permitted on the slip dock. Only the owner or authorized user of affiliated boat shall be allowed in the dock/slip area, and reckless horseplay is not allowed.
Rental Rates
- Seasonal (April 15-October 15): $800.00 paid in full in advance
- Monthly: $200.00 per month
- Weekly: $75.00 per week
- Daily: $15.00 per day
Proof of proper registration and insurance will be required upon application for a slip.
Boat License and Kayak Stickers
Boat Licenses and Kayak Stickers are required for use of the equipment on Lake Canton.
To purchase boat licenses and kayak stickers contact: Jack Freeman (Campground Host) at 309-267-1938. One-day boat licenses and stickers can be purchased from the Campground Host at the campground. Call ahead to ensure the host is there.
Fishing Limits
Boat stickers and state fishing licenses are required; all state fishing regulations apply and the lake is regulated and patrolled by the IL Department of Nature Resources. Fishing limits are below.
Current Fishing Regulations in effect for Lake Canton:
- All fish – 2 pole and line fishing only.
- Largemouth and Smallmouth bass, 15-inch minimum length and 3 fish per day.
- Channel and blue catfish, no size limit and 6 fish per day.
- Channel Muskellunge, 42-inch minimum length and 1 fish per day.
- Crappie, no minimum length or number limit at this time.
- Lake Canton is closed to public fishing over the winter season when road gates close in late fall.
Lake Canton Nature Trail
The Lake Canton Nature Trails consist of 1.92 miles of wooded wide paths that often follow along the shoreline of Lake Canton for beautiful lake views. If you complete the entire trail as a loop via The Docks – Trivium Point – Sebree Strolls (via Yellow Trail) – Trivium Point (via Orange Trail) – The Docks; called Wanderers Welcome, it is about 3 miles. Other suggested out and back hikes are listed on the Trail Map via the link above. All trails are marked with color coded metal trail markers.
Parking is available at each Trail head; Sebree Strolls Trailhead parking is open year round, and The Docks Trailhead parking is open April – November.
These trails are dog-friendly with a leash requirement. Multiple benches and trash cans are also situated along the trails.
